Scheduler - REPORTS TO: Gastroenterology Clinic Nurse and Physicians.

DEFINITION OF POSITION: Responsible for scheduling s. Function cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics.


  1. High school graduate.
  2. Able to read, write, and communicate.
  3. Displays a primary interest in giving good patient care and maintaining standards of courtesy and friendliness to co-workers.
  4. Maintain BLS certification.
  5. Able to comply with patient confidentiality and integrity policy on all matters.


  1. Schedule outpatient testing with facility depend upon patient insurance.
  2. Notify patients of testing appointment dates, times, location of test and instructions prior to testing.
  3. Fax signed orders to facility of scheduled testing.
  4. Send scheduled orders to Precert Specialist for prior authorization.
  5. Schedule immediate orders requested by physicians in clinic or procedures.
  6. Schedule referral consults requested by physicians.
  7. Notify patients of referral appointment dates, times, and locations.
  8. Send requested medical information to referred office.
  9. Schedule physician’s requested procedures at hospital.
  10. Notify patients of procedure dates, arrival times, and instructions prior to procedures at hospital.
  11. Fax signed orders and patient information to procedure nurse at hospital.
  12. Verify procedures with nurse prior to scheduled procedures.
